2K Games has welcomed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to lead the development team at 31st Union, which is currently working on the anticipated over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as Project Ethos.
Leadership Shift Comes After Lukewarm Response
Brinkman assumes the leadership position at 31st Union following the dismissal of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' lackluster unveiling last fall.
On Wednesday, 2K president a key figure updated team members about this strategic move through an internal memo, which stressed that early feedback sessions had indicated the requirement for a clearer vision.
Ismailer stated that the developers is now reimagining the project with a revised approach, aiming to better meet community desires.
A Pattern of Key Recruitment
This announcement mirrors a similar move taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they brought on an industry veteran from the Diablo team to assist with the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.

Dear Team—
I understand you all just finished your meeting - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the good news. Last time I sent you all a message, I expressed the following: “I am confident in this group. You all are some of the most dedicated and innovative designers we have had the opportunity to partner with - and we’re looking forward for that collaboration to endure.”
With your dedication and flexibility, particularly over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.
The gamer responses from last fall’s Project ETHOS testing phase was revealing. It affirmed the promise of a action-packed game but indicated we still had improvements to make. It revealed the requirement for a more distinct brand.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve come. You embraced the feedback to mind and revamped the title with a revitalized direction - one that’s ready to deliver on its potential to our audience.
The trust in Project ETHOS strengthens every day. To advance the outstanding development you’ve made, I’m excited to announce the new hire as the new Studio Head of 31st Union. Following some time of talks, Ben comes aboard us on next week.
Ben’s management and background in the PVP shooter field is extensive, having spent the last 15 years developing and overseeing some of the most recognizable series in the industry, for example the acclaimed shooter, and lately, the battle royale hit.
Please join me in welcoming Ben next week. We are all looking forward to continue witnessing the progress of Project ETHOS in the weeks to ahead.
David
Experience of the New Head
The appointee presently serves in the position of executive producer and head of production at Respawn Entertainment for Apex Legends. He earlier was employed at major gaming companies in various production roles on the iconic franchise games, and, prior to that, had periods at other industry leaders.
Game Information and Vision
The upcoming game was announced in October 2024 together with a early access event. At the time, the developers described the game as a "free-to-play, third-person perspective action-packed experience and an innovative evolution on the genre."
"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Build your hero in real-time to match your preferred approach," the official summary reads. "Take on the opponents with fresh skills, stakes, and tests that evolve every round. Will you safely extract with your hard-earned loot? Or go big, risk it all, and pray your group can secure victory? The option is yours."
Project Ethos lacks an official release date or supported systems, but players can look forward to further news as production advances.
