Minister Says Ministry of Defence Looking at Potential Threat from Vehicles from China, as Staff Told to Avoid Confidential Discussions in Vehicles.

An defense minister has revealed that the MoD is actively investigating the potential security risks associated with Chinese vehicles, while staff have been instructed to refrain from talking about classified matters in all cars.

Security Advice for MoD Personnel

During a recent appearance on LBC, a defence minister commented on claims that MoD officials have been told not to talk about classified information while travelling in Chinese cars.

The minister stated that the MoD is “examining” Chinese vehicles within its vehicle pools, but noted that safety is a concern in all modern cars.

We have a fleet of thousands of vehicles in the MoD and Chinese ones account for a very small number.
However whether you’re driving a vehicle from China or a car from another country, what we’ve asked our people is not to plug Ministry of Defence technology into their car, not to have discussions at a secret level in any kind of car, because of the growing risks of surveillance that exist in every single automobile, to restrict those confidential conversations in secure locations. This is a wise and sensible thing for anyone concerned about safety.

When it was put to him that it would be wise for the MoD to cease using all cars from China, the minister replied: ‘That’s precisely what we are looking into at the moment.”

Broader Security Context

This revelation comes as reports from Scandinavian countries have alerted the UK to the existence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese electric buses, which could allow the Chinese government to disable public transport and cause disruption to public transit.

Additionally, a Russian spy ship has been directing laser beams at RAF pilots, labeled a “highly dangerous” action by defence officials.

The wider security situation underscores the importance of robust measures and caution in all areas of government operations, from vehicle usage to discussions habits.
