Tetris Wouldn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type May Address This Issue

Whenever a significant prize-giving event approaches, you'll find a clamor for the addition of new categories to recognize unsung work and delight the passions of followers who have specialized interests.

My colleague previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. So would strategy board titles, which is a passionate advocate's mission. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize just as with other blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification for why my demand is the most urgent and important of all. The demand is this: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Categorizing Game Types

Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; it remains highly personal, and typically start arguments and end in fuzzy definitions. It's understandable that film award organizations steer clear of genre categories. Yet it remains a necessary evil in the world of interactive entertainment, that demonstrate such variety it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.

To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to be recognized, and for games of all stripes to receive proper recognition, genre categories are essential.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Leading game ceremonies currently feature award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these award types actually cover a lot of ground, and you can find room for most games within them.

This doesn't apply to logic-based experiences. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Examine these examples from recent excellent titles, all very different: structural challenges from a specific release, the pulse-pounding block-matching in a different title, engaging interpersonal challenges in another game. Where could they possibly go within current classifications? Simply put, no category fits.

Acknowledgment Issues

Many instances occur outstanding logic titles launched regularly without proper recognition in entertainment awards, unless they happen to qualify for categories like Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive independent game categories.

  • One classic puzzle game received no recognition completely during that awards season
  • Another creative title missed out during that ceremony
  • Well-received sorting experience got ignored recently
  • Only a few logic titles scraped into niche award types

Value of Brain-Teasers

These are often compact experiences, however the design behind logic titles is of massive significance. Well-known matching games stand as most engaged experiences globally continuing this trend for an extended period.

The legendary block-stacking game challenges famous sandbox experiences competing to become best-selling game of all time; it also contends for top gaming experience. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation across multiple categories.

Proposal and Rationale

Puzzle games wouldn’t have such difficulty. You could fill five nominees interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — perhaps, with difficulty, given the need to exclude numerous deserving experiences.

Restating the point, these represent titles without proper classification in important events. Puzzle game makers operate at the challenging frontier of video game design, creating some of the purest expressions within interactive entertainment. Just like cinema stunt performers, they merit acknowledgment. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
