Vehicles in Germany's Town Discovered Marked with Nazi Symbols in Human Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Police stated they were notified by a man who noticed a vehicle in Hanau marked with reddish substance

Approximately fifty vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.

Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.

Police state they were notified late on Wednesday, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.

The substance had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Law enforcement then discovered many other smeared vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.

These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.

Law enforcement state initial examinations suggest the substance was likely human bodily fluid.

"Currently there is no indication as to its source; investigators are presently not aware of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they added.

Local authorities said they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the community for details.

A high-ranking political figure said the incident made him stunned and needed to be resolved promptly.

"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the pain of the extremist terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on online, referring to the death of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at people of migrant background in five years prior.
