Wimbledon Introduces Video Replay System in 2025.

The Championships court with replay system

Wimbledon will follow the US and Aussie Opens in utilizing replay systems.

Replay technology will make its debut at The Championships this year.

Players are granted the ability to question specific decisions from the chair umpire, mirroring the system currently in use at each of the American Grand Slam and the Australian Open.

The new system will be accessible on Centre Court and Court One for the duration of the Championships and on the remaining featured courts when they are hosting singles matches.

This move follows just a year after the All England Club rolled out ELC, which terminated the longstanding tradition of line judges.

What Can Be Reviewed?

Competitors cannot to challenge the accuracy of the electronic line calling, but are allowed to request the umpire to re-examine specific situations, such as:

  • If a ball has double-bounced.
  • Whether a shot touched an rival's racket or body on the way past.
  • Potential interference at the conclusion of a point.

Notably, there will be no limit on the number of challenges a competitor can request.

Case in Point

A recent incident occurred in a recent tournament last week, where Daniil Medvedev used the video challenge against Jack Draper.

Draper admitted it was a difficult situation for the umpire, but believed his rival had "used the regulations quite well."

The umpire watched a replay and ruled the player was responsible for interference, granting the rally to Medvedev.

Growing Trend

Video reviews aren't new for major tournaments. It has been in use at the American major for two years and the Aussie Open since 2025.

Furthermore, it is increasingly prevalent on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the ATP circuit will have the system in place at every one of its events.

Additional Innovations

A further innovation at Wimbledon 2025 will be the introduction of visual indicators on scoreboards to support the verbal announcements from the ELC system.

This addresses situations where fans have occasionally been unsure if a shot was out or in.

In other news, with exactly 100 days remaining until the start of the Championships, organizers have also announced an increase in daily attendance at the qualifying competition in the qualifying venue.
